  • Assistant / Associate Planner

    We are seeking a team member who is highly organized, and capable of proactively managing various development permits and entitlements through the permitting process. Must have a fundamental understanding of land use planning law, CEQA, local ordinances and codes.   Experience in working with local, state, and federal agencies is important for this position. There may be opportunities to be assigned as a contract planner for a local government agency.

     

    Experience –

    • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, environmental planning, geography, or related field.
    • 2-3 years’ experience in public or private sector planning, preferably in the Central Coast region.

     

    Ability to:

    • Conduct zoning and property research  
    • Research planning laws and policy, zoning ordinances, and CEQA.
    • Review project plans and documentation prior to submittal to ensure complete, accurate applications.
    • Be able to work well individually and in a team environment.
    • Coordinate plan review with the owners, architects, engineers and other consultants. 
    • Prepare presentation graphics, assist with public meetings / public hearings.
    • Effectively communicate in a public setting

    Experience with:

    • Processing a variety of land use permits such as development plans, tentative tract maps, zoning clearances, etc.
    • Analyzing proposed project materials to determine if they comply with development standards and zoning ordinances.
    • CEQA documentation including Exemptions, Negative Declarations, and Environmental Impact Reports
